Feature Friday Q&A with Pamela Harari from Pamela Harari Jewelry Design

I've been a huge fan of this week's Feature Friday artist for a few years now.  Her designs have an old-world charm with a hint of mystery to them that belies their modernity.  She uses amazingly vivid gemstones and bits of archaeological treasures along with high-karat gold and handmade finishes.

I am truly in love with her simple, elegant designs!  They remind me of childhood trips to my local museum where the wonder and awe of the brightly colored sculptures, ancient jewelry and stunning oil paintings.

I know that when you see this week's Feature Friday artist, Pamela Harari of Pamela Harari Jewelry Design, you'll agree!  Her designs are unique, bold and reminiscent of a time past.  They are truly treasures!

1.  What prompted your passion for jewelry and jewelry design?
The love of gemstones, rocks and seashells from an early age.  I wanted to be able to make them wearable.

2.  What is your favorite piece or collection?
This is a hard one!  I have made quite a few pieces that I could call a favorite, but maybe the ring with the 2 Trilliant diamonds – one Yellow and one White, a special ring that I sold right from my finger!

Mandarin Garnet & Diamond Stacking Rings in 22K Gold.
Personally, I adore rings!  They are some of my favorites - especially since orange is my favorite color!

3.  What would your perfect “jewelry day” involve / be like?
Going to the Israeli Diamond Bourse in Ramat Gan, sitting and sorting through gemstones and diamonds then coming back with some beauties to start working on!

4.  Thus far, what would you say is your proudest jewelry moment or memory?
Winning the Centurion Emerging Designer Award for 2011, in Tucson Arizona.  It was a privilege to mix with some of the greatest in the field!

5.  Where do you find your greatest inspiration?
I think it comes from living in this region (Israel).  The different cultures, nature and climate – so diverse and unique!

6.  In your personal wardrobe, do you find that you gravitate to one particular jewelry accessory (rings vs. necklace vs. bracelets vs. watches, etc.) more often than others?
I am very minimalist when it comes to myself and wearing jewelry.  I usually always wear one ring - my Mandarin Garnet with Diamonds in 22K Gold.  And earrings – at the moment white South Sea Pearls in 22K.

This Mandarin Garnet & Diamond Ring in 22K gold is also my favorite piece!  I completely adore this ring!

7.  When putting together an outfit, how do you feel about mixing metals, designs and even new with vintage pieces?
I am the last person in the world that would say you cannot mix styles, metals and colors.  From early on in my career, I mixed styles and metals and made things that were not symmetrical.  I was highly criticized for my rough "unfinished" look…..if things are mixed with style, and it makes the wearer feel good, that is the most important.

8.  Layering seems to be a trend that is here to stay, for now. What are your feelings on the layered look?  How do you like layered necklaces with layered bracelets plus layered rings?
I feel today, people get bored easily from the "standard" pieces of jewelry, layering enables you to add on and remove according to your mood, I like that.

9.  What advice would you give to budding jewelry designers? To budding fine jewelry collectors?
I don't like giving advice, but I love sharing experiences and will always support those starting out in this very competitive profession.

To those who collect – keep on!  It is what we designers enjoy the most!
