Feature Friday - Q&A with Laurie Kaiser Jewelry

I love jewelry that has an earthy, rustic feel.  And, personally, I like to mix it with refined, vintage pieces.  I enjoy the juxtaposition of the two styles.  Which explains why I am so enamored with Laurie Kaiser Jewelry!  Her style blends both seamlessly!

So I am honored to have the opportunity to chat with Laurie Kaiser, the mind behind Laurie Kaiser Jewelry for this week's Feature Friday Q&A.  Enjoy!

Laurie Kaiser

1.  What prompted your passion for jewelry and jewelry design?
A friend and I took a jewelry making class, and I really enjoyed it. I mean REALLY! Thank you, Stacy, for suggesting we do it!!

2.  What is your favorite piece or collection?
I love my Lemongrass Collection. It’s all about sinuous shapes in gold and subtle expressions of nature. There’s color and sparkle and texture.

3.  What would your perfect “jewelry day” involve / be like?
Designing jewelry in the morning. Looking at the finished pieces in the afternoon. Wearing them to dinner that night.

4.  Thus far, what would you say is your proudest jewelry moment or memory?
We were very proud and excited the day we ran our first New York Times ad.

5.  Where do you find your greatest inspiration?
The seasons. Spring in particular. I love that bright fresh early spring green. And warm spring light always takes my breath away.

6.  In your personal wardrobe, do you find that you gravitate to one particular jewelry accessory (rings vs. necklace vs. bracelets vs. watches, etc.) more often than others?
Earrings. I’m never without them. I love to wear my most gem encrusted statement earrings with jeans, a v-neck tee and my motorcycle jacket.

7.  When putting together an outfit, how do you feel about mixing metals, designs and even new with vintage pieces?
I don’t think there’s an incorrect way to mix jewelry, jewelry metals, colors, styles, or clothes. Unlikely combinations are often the most wonderful. I love an element of surprise in my fashion.

8.  Layering seems to be a trend that is here to stay, for now. What are your feelings on the layered look?  How do you like layered necklaces with layered bracelets plus layered rings?
I wouldn’t layer my bracelets, layer my rings and layer my necklaces all in one go. I love an arm full of bangles with an oversized ring and a great pair of long, lean earrings. Or a big statement necklace with all the stack rings I can fit on my fingers.

9.  What advice would you give to budding jewelry designers? To budding fine jewelry collectors?

I tell budding jewelry designers to follow their passion, familiarize themselves with the great jewelry designers, and social network like crazy.

Budding jewelry collectors should look at my website. Visit www.lauriekaiser.com.
