Feature Friday - Q&A with Holly Dyment of Holly Dyment Fine Jewelry

Those who know me personally, know that I love color!  Color is fun.  It makes me smile. So imagine how tickled and excited I was when I found out that a designer who loves color as much I as do had agreed to answer a few questions for me!

So without any further ado, I bring you Holly Dyment of Holly Dyment Fine Jewelry!  Enjoy this week's Q&A with this one-of-a-kind designer!

1.  What prompted your passion for jewelry and jewelry design?
Maybe my grandmother, maybe old movies. I have always loved how I felt wearing jewelry. It takes you somewhere, It’s part of the fantasy.

2.  What is your favorite piece or collection?
I love my new Portrait Collection, due out in the spring.

3.  What would your perfect “jewelry day” involve / be like?
Going in to work in India, where I sit with my artist and we start drawing all my ideas, then choose the enamel and gemstones.  Seeing the samples being made, I love creating.

4.  Thus far, what would you say is your proudest jewelry moment or memory?
When I won “Best new designer of the year” at the JA Show last July.

5.  Where do you find your greatest inspiration?
Movies, old books, history, also when I go for my morning walk, that’s when I usually visualize my look.

6.  In your personal wardrobe, do you find that you gravitate to one particular jewelry accessory (rings vs. necklace vs. bracelets vs. watches, etc.) more often than others?
Yes, always rings. I like to look at the piece. It’s for me.

7.  When putting together an outfit, how do you feel about mixing metals, designs and even new with vintage pieces?
I am not really into mixing metals or new with old.

8.  Layering seems to be a trend that is here to stay, for now. What are your feelings on the layered look?  How do you like layered necklaces with layered bracelets plus layered rings?

9.  What advice would you give to budding jewelry designers? To budding fine jewelry collectors?
Be original. Find a niche and stick with it.  


Holly is well-known for her stunning enamel work and this is yet another wonderful example.
